Cattle Drive

With the grass back home chewed down pretty good, we found some pasture in Johnson County to hold the cows down for the fall and winter. So we set out to haul them over.

There's about 11 head at Mom and Dad's, plus a couple of calves.

Anytime you cross county lines, you need to have cattle brand inspected.

Beings Mom and Dad own these cows, Bob had to verify their brand.

Then we grabbed six cows and jumped them in. The filler door worked good, though they balled up a bit in that corner.

Heading over the hill with a good load like this was a workout for ole White Horse. 1st gear up and 1st gear down.

Home. Jack Marton's place will be their home for a while. A good 150 acres of hay meadows and tall grass, with free flowing water. Should treat them well.

While time permitted, Chief and I ran the fence just to double check all the gates were shut.

Once they got past the ranch manager, they were free to roam.

Good stuff. This pasture will treat these cows well. Jack and Buck will be around to make sure they don't get into any trouble. Hopefully we'll bring the rest of the bunch over soon. Until then, enjoy the green girls.
